Here is my video from the filmmaker side of Dance for Camera. This is something that I have never done before, so the project was a fun experience. I learned of a whole new side dance can take. What struck me as interesting while making this film was that I was not trying to create a story, but a story evolved through my video editing process.
While filming my dancer, Anna Gaia Vomacka, I asked her to move in relation to the space around her. I had found this nice grassy area, placed between a railroad track up on the hill and the streets of a more industrial area. The birds were chirping, the wind was blowing, and I could hear cars rolling through the gravel covered roads. I became very inspired by the environment of the area.
This inspiration carried over into the editing process, as I worked with superimposed nature shots and a minimal soundscape to accompany the dance. And the end result was this piece I’ve called “Points of Reference”.
